Magic Stack ‘n’ Whack Quilt — Beginner Friendly

Class Description

Two or three classes depending upon students’ quilting experience. Purchase of Bethany Reynolds’ book, Magic Stack -n- Whack Quilts is recommended. (See the link to the left.)

Want to have a great time cutting up? You’ll see kaleidoscopes appear before your eyes just like magic. You and your classmates will be saying, “oooo” and “aaaahhh”, and “look at this one!” Stack ‘n’ Whack is more than just a class, it’s just plain stellar fun!

In the first class, you’ll learn to cut fabric into its repeat components, stack the repeats, and whack the stack to create beautiful 45o diamond stars — each one so different from the other it’s hard to believe they come from the same fabric. Note: Don’t purchase the background fabric for your blocks until you see what the kaleidoscope stars look like first. We’ll make that decision before the end of the first class. No sewing machine this day.

In the second class, you’ll cut the background triangles and begin to sew your blocks together. This time, you will need your sewing machine and newly-purchased background fabric. You’ll learn tricks to join perfect intersections and make perfect points. For those who have taken Michele’s Practically Perfect Patchwork course or who have previous quilting experience, we will have an overview of how to make the various types of sashing strips and setting squares to finish the top.

The third class is for those who wish to work on finishing their quilt with the group or who have not taken Michele’s Practically Perfect Patchwork course and need finishing help. You will learn how to make sashing strips and setting squares, how to assemble the blocks to make a perfectly rectangular quilt, and how to add borders.
